Candidate Filing Information

Filing Information during COVID-19

  • CLOSED TO PUBLIC:  In accordance with the Governor's "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order, the St. Clair County Clerk's office is closed to the public. 
  • FILING DEADLINES:  For candidate filings filed with the County, you must either mail your required items and they must be received in the Clerk's office on or before the filing deadline; or, a drop box is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the entrance of the Port Huron Courthouse. 
  • PETITION SIGNATURES:  As of now, there are no changes to the statutory requirements regarding the ability of petition gatherers to collect and submit signature petitions, including candidates with an April filing deadline.
  • E-NOTARY OPTION:  Per the State Bureau of Election's information to counties, Michigan’s Notary Law currently allows for electronic/remote notarization of documents.  Executive Order 2020-41 has temporarily eased some of the law’s in-person requirements and encourages the use of electronic/remote notarization as much as possible.  Candidates needing a notarization are encouraged to have their Affidavit of Identity remotely notarized prior to filing with the County.  To find a notary who provides e-notary options, click here.
